My Week with Janie

Last week, I was in the beautiful city of Montreal for work.  I haven't been to Montreal as an adult so I was excited for the little getaway, even if I was there to work.  Janie, my colleague in Montreal, who I've been working with for six months, invited me to stay at her place after the work week was complete, so I could hang out for a little while longer and explore the city...so it took me all of two seconds to take her up on that offer.

It was definitely a busy few days at the start of the week.  The team and I were planning a press conference for an Olympic Games athlete, but it was a pretty amazing experience so I am definitely not complaining.  I mean, I got to hang out at the Olympic Park where the 1976 Olympic Games were held...the first Olympics held in Canada.  And, I got to watch some 2012 Olympic Games hopefuls train for London.  All in all, it was a very awesome experience and one that I was lucky to be a part of.

Some pretty cool memorabilia hanging on the walls.

At the end of the day, in front of the Olympic Stadium
The conference was a huge success and to celebrate, the team and I went out for lunch.  At my request, simply because I have a sweet tooth, we went to Juliette et Chocolat, a wonderful restaurant that serves the most yummy crepes.

Yummy yummy desserts

Yeah, we did pretty well
After a fun week, a whole lot of laughs, good conversations and a bit of translating from their end (my French vocabulary is pretty pathetic), I said goodbye to the girls for now.  Janie on the other hand, was stuck with me for the rest of the weekend!  And what a wonderful host she was...truly Montreal hospitality at its best.  Not only did Janie feed me yummy breakfasts, introduce me to her awesome fiancé (who she is marrying in two weeks....yay!), amazing friends and take me shopping (which, I love to do!), but she got me to jog.
At first I thought Janie was joking when she suggested we jog up Mont Royal, but sadly she wasn't.  I accepted her challenge and attempted jogging.  I'm not a runner, so it was a bit tough, but I made it through, alternating between jogging and walking.  7.5 km later...we were back at Janie's where my legs felt like jell-o...but I did it and I'm glad I did, because I go to check out this amazing view of the city.
View from Mont Royal
Whenever I go to a new city, I love to shop, shop, shop...and shopping we did.  Janie took me to some of her favourite boutique shops and I could have probably spent all day at Blu Berry, Raz Berry, 1861 and Downstairs - if you're ever in Montreal, you must check them out!  In addition to boutique shops, I learned that Janie loves Hello Kitty and we spent some time checking out Hello Kitty gear.
Look, it's Hello Janie!
Between the dinners, shopping and hanging out with friends, time just flew by. It's such a beautiful city and I can't wait to go back, but I think I need to brush up on my French.  Bonjour just won't cut it.

Thanks for a great week, Janie.  You are a fabulous host and I can't wait to visit again!  Come on down to Toronto anytime!

xo,
Noor

Happy Birthday Rachel!

This weekend, we celebrated the birthday of our dear friend, Rachel D aka the beautiful gal behind the blog Love As A Verb.

The night began with Jay (Rachel's hubby) organizing a small group of friends having dinner at the Harbord House. The space was beautiful, the food was tasty and the company was ah-mazing. What's so fab about Rachel is that she loves bringing people together! She has some pretty amazing friends and I was lucky enough to meet a few of them over dinner.

Rachel at dinner digging into some Ribs.

At dinner, Jay mentioned that he made some desserts for when we move the party back to their place. When he started describing all the scrumptious things he made, we all wanted to skip dinner and go straight to dessert...and with reason!

I mean, check it out...is your mouth watering yet!?

Red Velvet Cupcakes!

I don't even know how to describe this, but it was a HIT!
Although we celebrated this weekend, it's Rachel's birthday today. Rachel, these 2girls would like to wish you a very happy birthday, filled with joy, laughter and love.

And on a personal note, I'd like to say that I am so happy to have you in my life! Your positive energy and open heart inspire me all the time.

Happy Birthday Rachel!!

Happiest of birthdays!

Saturday Meet Up.

Yesterday, Melissa and I went to our very first blogger meet up.  It all started because our lovely friend Rachel (Love as a Verb) wanted to add us all to her blog roll.  After a few Facebook conversations and some planning by all, we spent a lovely Saturday afternoon at Terroni on Queen St.

All the ladies were so lovely and what was incredible is that none of us talked about blogging or work (well not too much).  We just chatted the afternoon away getting to know each other.  It was such a delight.

There are so many things that I took away from that lunch but a few things that stood out for me about each of the lovely ladies in attendance were:

Alicia - respect yourself and make smart choices to be a better woman
Christine - seek advice of those around you and cherish their opinions
Meg - find your life's passion and go for it
Melissa - it's never too late to make changes in your life, now is the time
Sarah - be open to new possibilities like making friends
Rachel - bring the people in your life together

A very inspiring group of women!

I hope that we get to meet up with each other again soon.

xo,
Noor

Spring Forward!

Hello hello!

Daylight Savings Time is upon us, and we've had to "spring forward" today.  If you haven't already, please change your clocks to an hour earlier or else you'll be late for all of your work and appointments tomorrow!

Although we have lost an hour of time, it's totally worth it with the extra sunlight we'll be getting in the afternoons.  With all the sunlight, compounded by the amazingly gorgeous weather we've had today, it's a sure sign that spring is on it's way!  I absolutely cannot wait until we can break out our flip flips and shorts, and hit the patios.  In fact, I'm sure there are some Torontonians out there who have already dusted off their summer gear and are rocking them out and about today.

It's approximately 16 degrees/60 degrees in Toronto today, so what are y'all doing to take advantage of the weather on this beautiful day in the city?

Tupperware bonanza!

Earlier this weekend, Noor and I had the pleasure of attending our very first Tupperware party hosted by our dear friend Cynthia.  What's funny is that when we told people that we'd be attending this type of party, it was met with mixed reactions.  Some commented that it was a sign of growing old that we were going to a Tupperware party, while others asked if it was for real or if  'Tupperware' was code for another cool party.   Understanding that it's 2012, Tupperware parties sound like such a throw back to old times, but you can't deny they also seem so cool and retro.  Plus, who doesn't want cool Tupperware items?

All I know, is that when I was a child growing up in Atlanta, my mom used to frequent these parties, and would always come back with the most amazing items like little mini Tupperware key chains or holders for my lunch that were cool shapes and sizes.  So the nostalgia factor was big for me, and I could not wait to go to my first Tupperware party as an adult.

When we arrived at Cynthia's, we were met with the cutest set up of food and refreshments ever!

Cynthia's sister Amy demonstrated all of the different items to us, and we played some fun games to get to know each other.  I was completely sold on some of the coolest things like the can opener that left no sharp edges or the fridge boxes that keep your veggies fresh for weeks.

After the demos, we all mixed and mingled, enjoying lots of delicious wine and cheese apps.  We also all walked away with some great new purchases, but also the fun gift bags including the coolest orange peeler ever (which my mom also has from back in the day).

All in all, a super successful inaugural Tupperware party.  Can't wait to go to a few more!

Happy Leap Day!

It's February 29th - and that only happens every 4 years!  What are you going to do with this extra day on the calendar?  Whether you spend it at work or play, we hope you make it special.

Brunch Bits & Bites: Lola's Commissary

Brunch is perhaps the best part of any weekend in Toronto.  Whenever I talk to my friends from Atlanta, they seem to marvel at how often we do brunch up here.  But it's true, Toronto has an amazing brunch culture and unbelievable brunch spots throughout the city.

Yesterday, I popped by one of my absolute favourite brunch spots - Lola's Commissary (also called Lola's Kitchen) located on Church Street between Hayden and Charles.

Ok, so y'all probably think I enjoy it purely on it's proximity to my house, which while an awesome bonus, I really just love everything about Lola's brunch.  I wish I could comment on the different food options which all look so scrumptious, but because I'm a creature of habit I can really comment only on the eggs bennies...which are UNBELIEVABLE.

What's so deeeelish about the bennies are that they're made with toasted organic whole wheat biscuits.  That's right, I said biscuits!  YUM.  Being from the South, I crave biscuits like crazy and it's so hard to find any restaurant up here that serves biscuits, let alone makes them well.  But Lola's manages to make them so good, that I'll even venture to say they can rival a southern brunch spot.  I got the 'Shroom Benny for the first time yesterday, which was made with mushrooms and caramelized onions.  Unreal.

I highly recommend Lola's if you are looking for a delightful little brunch spot.  But, be warned, make a reservation because it gets pizzity packed!  Here are some other scenes from brunch.

Hope you have a happy Sunday!  Anyone try any great brunch places today?

Bangles and Earrings Galore!

Like my dear friend, Melissa, I too have a thing for accessories. My weakness is bangles and earrings. I absolutely love them and can't stop buying or wearing them.

My love for bangles started when I was introduced to Bollywood several years back. The gorgeous outfits accompanied by beautiful bangles...how could I not love them?? They are a perfect addition to any outfit...whether casual or dressy. Not only do my friends fuel my accessory obsession by buying me more and more bangles, but I even went so far as to borrow (aka never give back) some of my sister's wedding bangles. I mean, she doesn't need them anymore right?

Here are a few photos to bring my bangle obsession to life.  I don't have that many!

I love earrings as much as I love bangles. I always say the bigger the better too! When Melissa and I went to Chicago in November we both bought around 15 pairs of earrings...and we both have awesome taste, since we mainly picked out the same ones. Like bangles, earrings can jazz up an outfit, so obviously you can never have enough earrings. I have so many now, that I had to purchase the very cool, Little Black Dress accessory holder from Umbra. I still have a few empty slots though...guess that means I can go shopping!
